These countries are only found in Africa and South America and are usually in the tropical regions of these continents. However, during the pre-travel consultation, the risk for Yellow Fever infection will be determined as well as any contra-indications, before the vaccine is administered.

This includes persons with HIV/AIDS with a CD4 count less than 200, a person with cancer on chemotherapy, persons on high dosages of cortisone, people with a timus tumour, children under 6 months, pregnant women, people older than 65 years and people who are allergic to chicken or eggs.
If the risk for Yellow Fever is very high, then such a person will be advised to rather cancel or postpone the trip until the reason for the contra-indication has cleared. If it is a low risk area, then measures to prevent mosquito bites will be explained and a waiver letter can be issued, if the person understands the risk.
Firstly, it is required by Law, because prescriptions can only be issued for six months at a time. Therefore, a pharmacist will be contravening the law, if he issues your chronic medication without a doctor’s script.
