Wellness/Yearly Examinations

Wellness examinations are essential, especially for those over 50. These involve a general examination that can include if required, a rectal examination in men to evaluate the prostate and a clinical breast examination in women to evaluate for any breast lumps. We also do an ECG and any bloodwork required to exclude serious diseases.

Regular check-ups are vital, as minor preventative measures can go a long way. The main goal is to detect problems before they manifest or to begin medical treatment for various diseases as early as possible. With screenings, treatments and health services, you will increase your chances of living a healthier and longer life.

Typically, we will check vitals such as:

  • Blood pressure
  • Eyesight
  • Heart rate
  • Breathing

As part of the check-up, we may also order blood tests, especially if there is a cause for concern or unusual symptoms. Other tests may include:

  • X-rays
  • ECG
  • Lung function tests
  • Scans or ultrasounds

One of our strengths is the monitoring and treating chronic or non-communicable diseases, especially hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidaemia, hypothyroidism, asthma, etc.

We strive to focus on preventative medicine and to identify any risk factors or target organ damage to address these before it can lead to, for example, a stroke or heart attack. We also have a good relationship with specialist colleagues in the area, whom we can refer to if the need arises.

FAQ

1When should you start going for yearly wellness exams?
Annual check-ups are beneficial at any age, but the older you get, the more important they become. Consider prioritising your check-ups if you are older than 50.

Simply contact the practice to reschedule if you missed your check-up.
3Do we do tests at the practice?
We can draw blood for testing at the practice, but specimens are sent to the lab. We also do point of care testing but refer patients for scans and x-rays if necessary.
